About Connie
My roots run deep in the Western Nebraska Sandhills, where small-town living and self-sufficiency shaped my way of life. I enjoyed the fruits of the labor of my grandparents and parents’ large backyard garden. For many years, I lived on a ranch in Wyoming. This is where my canning journey began. Kitchen sessions with my Great Aunt Bo taught me that canning is not just about preserving food – it’s about strengthening bonds with family, friends and community.
The best recipes come with stories
and the best canners come
with opinions about everything.
Now, I have adjusted to urban living in Northern California and know that the concept of self-sustaining living still applies—just in different ways. Whether you’re growing herbs on a balcony, shopping at a farmers’ market, or preserving seasonal produce, the principles of thoughtful, sustainable living are as relevant as ever.
With over 50 years of canning experience, I’ve had my share of successes and failures—and both have taught me valuable lessons about patience, safety, creativity and a sense of humor in the kitchen. When you know your methods are sound and your techniques are proven, canning transforms from something intimidating into something deeply satisfying.
Through Canning with Connie, I share that knowledge with anyone who wants to gain confidence in preserving their own food. I help home cooks, gardeners and food lovers safely and confidently preserve the foods they grow and enjoy.
My teaching philosophy is simple:
Nothing feels overwhelming when you break it down into small, manageable steps.
From mastering your first jar of jam to planning a year-round harvest pantry, I’ll help you build the skills to preserve food safely and joyfully.
Each class and resource I create is designed to help you build your skills at your own pace. From your first jar of jam to planning a full harvest pantry, you’ll gain the confidence to create something lasting, delicious and uniquely yours.
When I am not teaching, testing recipes or gardening, I love experimenting with seasonal fruits and vegetables, often rediscovering old recipes and preservation methods that have been hidden away or set aside. Each experiment is an opportunity to connect with tradition while creating something uniquely delicious.
Let’s keep the canning tradition alive—together!
